UNCW downs Towson 75-64; head into CAA Tournament play
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It may be spring break, but Trask Colosseum was just as loud as ever.
The UNCW Seahawks defeated the Towson Tigers 75-64 at home to finish out the regular season. The Seahawks finished the regular season with a (21-9) record, (12-6) in the CAA.
Shykiem Phillips lead the way for the Seahawks in his final home game with 17 points and 4 steals. Trazarien White added 16 points and 4 rebounds.
“Seahawk nation has been nothing but great to me. These last five years, I couldn’t ask for a better program. I’m going to miss it here in Wilmington, but we still got a job to do,” said Senior Shykiem Phillips in his post game interview.
Seniors Shykiem Phillips, KJ Jenkins, Ahmard Harvey and Maleeck Harden-Hays were all honored before the game for their efforts during their time at UNCW.
“You know, KJ, Maleeck, Ahmard, all those guys decided to come and play for me, play for my staff and this program and they’ve impacted our program in major way. We wouldn’t be in the position we’re in without them so. These are happy years and we’re gonna keep this thing rolling,” said an emotional Head Coach Takayo Siddle after the game.
The Seahawks will be the (#4) seed in the CAA Tournament, guaranteeing them a double-bye. CAA Tournament play begins Friday, March 8th in Washington D.C.
UNCW will play Sunday, March 10th at 2:30 pm against the winner of the (#5) Towson vs (#13) William & Mary/(#12) North Carolina A&T, which takes place Saturday, March 9th at 2:30pm.
