UNCW wins the 2024 CAA Baseball Championship; will advance to NCAA Regionals
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the second straight year, UNCW Baseball was won the CAA Baseball Championship.
Entering Sunday’s match up, UNCW has yet to lose a game in the CAA Tournament, needing one single victory over the College of Charleston to claim the title. The Seahawks would struggle in the first few innings with errors of the defensive end which allowed Charleston to take an 4-1 lead through three innings.
However, the Seahawks would rally later in the game after making a pitching change and getting some helps from hitters Tanner Thach and Trevor Marsh. UNCW reclaimed the lead in the 7th inning 5-4, with pitcher Trace Baker giving six innings, allowing Luke Craig to come close out the game.
The Seahawks would defeat top-seeded College of Charleston by a score of 6-4, claiming their eighth conference championship in the programs history. This was the first time they have won back-to-back conference championships since 2018 and 2019.
UNCW will find out who and where they will play Monday afternoon with the tournament selection show airing on ESPN2 at 12PM.
