WWAY Student Athlete of the Week: Coen Locklear
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — When it comes to getting things done on and off the court, not many do it better than Coen Locklear from Ashley High School.
The 17-year-old senior basketball player holds a 4.3 GPA in the classroom, as well as working with special needs children through a club called Eagle Buddies. Locklear said he believes in academics coming first and sports coming along easier once you’ve handled your classroom work. When it comes to advice for other student athletes, Locklear said it’s all about what you do with your time.
“Time management for sure. You know, just make sure that you divvy up your time. You know, you don’t want to spend too much time, you want to work diligently. Try to make it fun, I think sometimes we get too caught up in trying to make a good grade or trying to have a good performance. But, just enjoy it and I think it will come with that,” Locklear said.
After graduation, Locklear will continue his basketball career at Washington and Lee University and will study business
