THE LATEST (WWAY) — Many projects are either scheduled to begin or to be completed in 2024 within Southeastern North Carolina.

One of 2024’s most talked about projects in New Hanover County, repair work on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. Lane closures are scheduled to begin on January 11th. Crews will be replacing the bridge’s grid deck and stringers. The lanes heading into Wilmington will be fixed first, with a break in the work set for the Azalea Festival. Then, the work on the westbound side will begin. The NCDOT said it hopes the project will be completed by May 23rd.

Also in New Hanover County, work is scheduled to begin on the new Salvation Army’s Center of Hope in early 2024. Located off MLK Parkway, the 22-acre property was purchased nearly a decade ago and will house many additional rooms, as well as a full-sized multiple-purpose gym.

Across the Cape Fear River in Brunswick County, Epsilon Advanced Materials manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin construction in late 2024. The arrival of facility was announced in October of this year. It will be the company’s first plant built within the United States and will create 500 jobs.

In Bladen County, the Elizabethtown Community Center broke ground earlier this year and is scheduled to be finished in spring of 2024. The community center will be located on Martin Luther King Drive and will include a new playground, commercial kitchen, multi-purpose play facility and meeting offices.

The building has a more than $2.5 million price tag with funding from the Community Building Block Grant for Neighbor Revitalization Program.

In Columbus County, renovations on the historic Columbus County Courthouse are scheduled to be completed by late spring or early summer of 2024. Commissioners will also be meeting on January 2nd to award the bid for a new airport terminal building at the Columbus County Municipal Airport. Construction for that will begin 90 days after the bid is awarded.

Lastly in Pender County, a new water tower is expected to be completed in May of 20-24. The Pender County Utilities project will include a new 500,000 gallon tank and three new well facilities. The tank, along with one well will be adjacent to Pender EMS and Fire Station 18 in Scotts Hill.
