CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Nearly 200 boats competed in a fishing tournament this weekend in Carolina Beach looking to reel in the big one.

The 45th Annual East Coast Got Em On King Mackerel Classic took place this Sunday. The tournament is typically all weekend long, but due to weather it was pushed to just Sunday. Dozens of people waited for the boats to come in before 5pm, with some bringing in some big fish before then. Several different size fish came in weighing anywhere between 10 – 40 lbs. According to Kevin Aman, a member of the NC Division of Marine Fisheries, who did sampling of some of the fish that were caught, said its a great turnout every year.

“I’ve participated in this tournament, I’ve been a part of the sampling for the state for about 15 years and I look forward to seeing their staff and all the nice people that come visit with us and talk with us.”

The tournament is a joint venture between the Got Em On Live Bait Club, Kure and Carolina Beach Fire Department and the East Coast Got Em On King Mackerel Classic.
