Alligator reportedly tried to climb fence in Southport
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The Southport Animal Protective Services and officers with the Southport Police responded to an alligator reportedly climbing a fence in Southport Monday afternoon.
According to the Southport Police Department, the gator was reportedly climbing a fence and was near traffic. The alligator was safely captured and relocated by the APS officer.
The Southport Police remind the public to keep in mind if they come in contact with an alligator to:
- Always maintain a safe distance.
- Never feed alligators.
- Keep pets leashed and away from water/ponds and be mindful of your surroundings, especially during dawn and dusk.
