Tucker Oakley joined WWAY in October 2024, starting as a production assistant after working several warehouse jobs in both the Wilmington area and Virginia. In December, he moved into News as a producer.
A Wilmington native, Tucker earned his bachelor’s degree in multimedia journalism from Virginia Tech. While there, he served as outreach chair for the Kappa Pi Visual Arts Honors Society and was named a finalist for the 2022 Undergraduate Creative Writing Awards for a play he wrote (while battling a severe sinus infection!) During his senior year, Tucker also assisted at Squires Studio Theatre, helping construct sets in the backstage workshop. More recently, he was named a finalist in the 2024 Roadmap Writers Kids’ Television Competition.
While he hasn’t been back home in a while, he’s looking forward to learning more about the community in the surrounding counties and broaden his knowledge of what’s going on in the country.
Outside the newsroom, Tucker enjoys writing comedy scripts, playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends, and admits he is easily persuaded by M&Ms.
