Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Helene weakens to tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph over Georgia

Authorities rescued people trapped by floodwaters and more than 3 million customers were in the dark across much of the southeastern U.S. as Hurricane Helene weakened to a tropical storm over Georgia early Friday after making landfall overnight in northwestern Florida as a Category 4 storm. Helene came ashore amid warnings from the National Hurricane Center that the enormous system could create a “nightmare” storm surge. There were at least four storm-related deaths.

Community concerns: Stoney Creek residents prepare for more potential rainfall

With more unpredictable weather headed our way, we visited Stoney Creek Plantation in northern Brunswick County today, where 19 houses sustained damage from last week’s storm, which brought heavy rainfall. Residents in a low-lying area of the community were hit hard and now worry they could face the same predicament again, as the ground remains saturated from last week’s storm.

Navigating change: Southport businesses respond to Highway 87 closures

As of earlier this week, Highway 87 has become the only route in and out of Southport, leading to significant traffic buildup. Local business owners are concerned about the impact this is having on their livelihoods. While traffic on Highway 87 has been steady, getting in and out of Southport is taking longer than usual for visitors.
