Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear looks to a world in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.  It is celebrating 25 years of providing case management, transitional housing, and emergency shelter to families in need.  The 25th Anniversary Celebration Low Country Boil has a happy hour, dinner, and entertainment from comedian Orlando Jones.  

Carolina Beach swimmer doesn't return to shore

The search continued Saturday night for a missing swimmer, last seen off of Carolina Beach. Crews from all over our area, even Georgia and South Carolina, began searching, both in the water and from the air.

Scouts honor fallen soldiers

Local cub and boy scouts honored all of the fallen soldiers at the Wilmington National Cemetery on Saturday. The troops placed small flags by each of the grave markers to honor the men and women who have given their lives in battle.

Area farmers market gets financial boost

Some people in Shallotte spent part of their Memorial Day weekend shopping. The Shallotte Farmers Market is now into its third week. It recently received a grant for more $24,000 from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund.

Star light, star bright

Stargazers in Sunset Beach now have some new hi-tech equipment to help them learn about the cosmos. The Ingram Planetarium held its seasonal grand re-opening today. While closed, the planetarium upgraded. It now has a Sci-dome HD Digital Projection System. The planetarium is now the third in the world to have the technology.

Honoring a soldier and a father

Boy drowns in White Lake

A sixteen-year-old boy drowned in White Lake Saturday afternoon. The boy, from Granville County, was swimming out to a buoy with a friend when he went under.
