Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear looks to a world in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.  It is celebrating 25 years of providing case management, transitional housing, and emergency shelter to families in need.  The 25th Anniversary Celebration Low Country Boil has a happy hour, dinner, and entertainment from comedian Orlando Jones.  

Columbus County animal activists gather to raise awareness

videoThe Columbus County Humane Society and animal activists are upset. They say the Columbus County Animal Control shelter does not treat its pets in a humane way and spent the afternoon protesting the facility's actions. Over 100 people came together in Whiteville to raise awareness of animal cruelty that they say is going on in the county.

UNCW tests new siren warning system

videoIf you were anywhere near UNCW's campus at noon, you most likely heard the university's newest safety measure. The Seahawk warning siren system is the latest addition to UNCW's emergency preparedness system. Monday the sirens were put to the test.

Highway patrol to crack down on seat belts

State troopers will be watching drivers who aren't wearing seat belts for the next two weeks. The Highway Patrol is conducting Operation Buckle-Up 2007 starting today. The statewide enforcement drive ends September 23rd.

Gabrielle passes through Outer Banks with little impact

Ferry service has resumed to Ocracoke Island as remnants of Tropical Storm Gabrielle moved away from North Carolina. Ferry service was suspended yesterday because of the storm, which brought 50 miles per hour winds and up to eight inches of rain to the Outer Banks.
