DES MOINES, IOWA (WWAY) — There was a rare animal experience that happened in the heartland this week.

The Ladies Rubber Chicken Throwing Contest kicked off at the Iowa State fair on Wednesday.

Participants took turns to see who could fling the seven-pound featherless fowl the farthest, with the champion wowing the crowd with a 57-foot toss.

According to the Iowa State fair, the chicken throwing contest said used to be a rolling pin contest, until one contestant’s rolling pin fling, went crashing through the windshield of a police car.
