Port City FC honors former player after recovering from a stroke last year
WILMINGTON (WWAY) — Port City FC took on Greenville United in their final home game of the year on Saturday. But, there was something bigger that happened at the game during halftime.
Tristan Torbett at the age of 23 last year set off to Malaysia in September to compete for the World Deaf Football Championship. Suddenly, things all changed for Torbett out of nowhere. He had suffered a stroke during the plane ride and arrival at the airport. Torbett would under go a Endovascular Thrombectomy, a fairly new procedure that helped saved his life and help him make a full recovery. Torbett was a former player for Port City FC and Cape Fear Community College. The team would fall to Greenville 2-0, but the real winner of the game was Torbett.
