UNCW women’s basketball coach announces stars competing in ‘Dancing with the Seahawks’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We now know who WWAY’s Hannah Patrick will be competing against in a local dance competition to raise money for the UNCW Women’s Basketball team.
UNCW women’s basketball head coach Nicole Woods came on Good Morning Carolina on Monday to talk about the fun event happening in April.
Woods said she grew up in the Gastonia Boys & Girls Club and had so much fun participating in a similar event. That is how she came up with the idea to bring ‘Dancing with the Seahawks’ to Wilmington when she took over as head coach for the Seahawks in April 2023.
The event is just like Dancing with the Stars. It’s happening on April 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Warwick Center on UNCW’s campus. The first hour will be a cocktail hour. The dancing will happen from 6 to 9 p.m.
There are five dancers who are partnered with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Wilmington. The dancers are news anchors Hannah Patrick and Frances Weller, Radio host and DJ Bigg B from 97.3, Vice Chancellor for student affairs at UNCW Christine Reed Davis, and UNCW men’s basketball assistant coach Craig Ponder. They will compete in two rounds of dancing on April 21.
The winners are based on dances and money raised. Woods said there will also be three celebrity judges. All proceeds go to the team’s trip to Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving to play in the Puerto Rico Clasico.
