UNC men's basketball coach Roy Williams underwent a robotic partial nephrectomy at UNC Hospitals on Wednesday to remove a tumor from his right kidney. Williams, 62, should be able to coach when the Tar Heels begin practice on October 13th. Full story...

On Wednesday the UNCW men's basketball team received news it didn't want to hear. The UNCW men’s basketball team will not be allowed to compete in postseason play in the 2012-13 season due to low Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The NCAA made that announcement on Wednesday. Full story...

Pat Summitt is stepping aside as Tennessee's women's basketball coach and taking the title of "head coach emeritus". UNCW men's basketball coach Buzz Peterson used to coach with Summitt at Tennessee. "One of the best basketball minds to ever coach the game, Peterson texted WWAY about Summitt. "She was such a tremendous communicator with her players. I was blessed to work beside her and to eat her excellent country cooking." Full story...

Times have been better in Seahawk basketball land. It appears UNCW will be banned from post-season play next season due to previous academic difficulties. Three players recently transferred. On Sunday might a Dallas newspaper reported UNCW head coach Buzz Peterson may be heading to SMU as an assistant coach if Larry Brown is awarded the vacant head coaching job for the Mustangs. Former Hoggard guard Stilman White played 32 minutes on Friday for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Look for those minutes to decrease if Kendall Marshall plays on Sunday in St. Louis.
