Cape Fear gets 24th seed in NJCAA Tourney

The Cape Fear Community College men's basketball team will be the 24th seed out of 24 teams in next week's NJCAA Tournament. Cape Fear will face South Plains on the first day of the six day event.

CFCC wins Region X, Chants advance to title game

Cape Fear Community College defeated Brunswick Community College in men's basketball on Saturday to earn the Region X title. The Sea Devils earn a bid to the NJCAA Tournament in Kansas later this month. Coastal Carolina is just one victory away from earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in men's basketball.

Duke slips one spot, UNC reenters latest AP poll

UNC is back in the Associated Press Top 25 after a win over rival Duke. The Blue Devils slipped one spot in the poll despite a win over then top-ranked Syracuse.

Player hits lights, halts Division II game in tie

Talk about shooting the lights out. The Division II game between Johnson C. Smith and Winston Salem State was halted for safety reasons after a player heaved a full-court shot and knocked out lights - leaving the game tied with 0.3 seconds left on Wednesday night.

Changes & postponements for local sports

Due to the severe weather several local athletic events will be shifted until later this week. We've updated the posted changes for high school hoops and college basketball as well. This includes a postponement involving the UNCW men's basketball team and Duke-UNC.

Another one gets away from Buzz & company

A comfortable lead certainly isn't a sure thing this season for the UNCW men's basketball team. The Seahawks let another possible victory slip away. UNCW led by 14 points at the half, but Hofstra ended up beating UNC Wilmington by double digits. Buzz Peterson's squad currently holds a school record 14 game losing streak. Cape Fear CC lost on Saturday too, but BCC won.
