Both squads are used to playing in the heat..... The regular season is now over in American Legion Baseball. The playoffs begin on Wednesday.

In Wednesday night's sports segment we featured an extra innings baseball thriller between NC State and East Carolina in Raleigh. We also traveled to Hampstead to check in on Topsail baseball and softball teams. Both squads are state ranked. On top of that, we got a peek at the nationally ranked UNCW women's tennis team against Coastal Carolina.

UNCW is currently ranked #43. The Wolfpack is #21. We also made a stop at Brogden Hall in order to check out the New Hanover boys basketball team. The Wildcats will play for the 4-A state championship on Saturday in Raleigh.

Wilmington City Council Tuesday night made clear it will not privatize the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex at Empie Park. Instead it will seek a public-private partnership with the Althea Gibson Foundation.

Rain on Tuesday forced the biggest high school tennis match of the season to date in Wilmington to be played on Wednesday. Hoggard has five consecutive conference titles, but their hold on the streak was in jeopardy due to a surging New Hanover squad.
