Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear looks to a world in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.  It is celebrating 25 years of providing case management, transitional housing, and emergency shelter to families in need.  The 25th Anniversary Celebration Low Country Boil has a happy hour, dinner, and entertainment from comedian Orlando Jones.  

Hospital considers raising rates

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is once again considering raising its rates. The hospital's finance committee has been presented with an option for a five percent increase.

Cameron Art Museum Launches Connections Alzheimer's Tour Program

Cameron Art Museum is pleased to announce the launch of the Connections Program, which will offer tours designed especially for visitors who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The museum is able to provide this service to the community this year through a grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation and the generous support of Mort and Judy Neblett.

People with diabetes should prepare for hurricanes

Along with preparing your home for a hurricane people with medical conditions should also prepare themselves. Pender County Hospital is offering classes for diabetics on self managing their condition during a disaster.

Dorothy B. Johnson Elementary to close

videoThe school year has just begun and already, students at one New Hanover County school are having to think about where they'll go next year. Students at Dorothy B. Johnson Elementary in Wilmington won't be going there next year. Instead, that building will be used by kids currently attending Snipes Elementary.
