Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear looks to a world in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.  It is celebrating 25 years of providing case management, transitional housing, and emergency shelter to families in need.  The 25th Anniversary Celebration Low Country Boil has a happy hour, dinner, and entertainment from comedian Orlando Jones.

Grants available from Garden Tour earnings

Those of you who attended the Azalea Festival Garden Tour should feel good. You helped the Cape Fear Garden Club raise $80,000 to give back to the community. That money will be used for local college scholarships, projects like Battery Island conservation and beautification grants for the New Hanover County area.

Sub dubbed USS North Carolina

Another Navy vessel is carrying a familiar name. A new nuclear submarine was christened USS North Carolina at a ceremony in Virginia Saturday. The $2.4 billion sub is the fourth in a new class of submarines designed for the post-Cold War era. It is also the fourth vessel to bear the name North Carolina, and the first since the Battleship North Carolina launched in 1940.
