The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Planned Parenthood sues to expand South Carolina abortion access under strict new ban

Abortion providers urged South Carolina’s highest court on Thursday to lengthen the narrow window when a pregnancy can be legally terminated under the state’s strict new ban. In a complaint filed Thursday, they wrote that the ban should be interpreted to take effect after approximately nine weeks under the statute's language, because that's when most of the main parts of the eventual heart have developed.

Alex Murdaugh makes his first appearance in court since his murder trial

Defense attorney Dick Harpootlian argued it would be difficult to get a fair trial within a year of the widely watched murder trial's conclusion. “Where are you going to get a jury? Mars?” Harpootlian told Circuit Court Judge Clifton Newman, who also presided over the murder trial. Newman said the indictments were issued across many counties home to people capable of serving on a jury.

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher hosting 'Femme in STEM' on Saturday

Leading women scientists in the Cape Fear region will highlight the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF) 2023 Femme in STEM on Saturday. According to Gail Lemeic with the aquarium, visitors will have the opportunity to look through microscopes, experience a tornado machine, and even get their hands dirty with some soil samples.
