For the last four years Buzz Peterson has been a Wilmington resident. As of Thursday that's no longer the case. The former UNCW men's head basketball coach moved his family to the Charlotte area. Peterson will be working with the NBA Charlotte Hornets down the road. This means his son, Rob, will not be playing for Laney in the upcoming basketball season. Full story...

Mike Propst is the new Ashley head football coach, but he's certainly no stranger to being a head coach. On Wednesday we checked out football practice at Ashley High School. As mentioned last week on WWAY Laney football & basketball standout Tariq Lane will not be returning to Buctown when school starts back. Lane has decided to move to Charlotte. Lane will also re-classify, which will add another year of high school eligibility to one of the most electrifying athletes in Wilmington. The 2014 Fred Lynch Invitational is now over after three days of intense summer high school hoops. The Wilmington Sharks won on Wednesday at Buck Hardee Field. Ashley High has a new head football coach. It's a familiar face to to the Ashley High community. Plus more! Full story...

The search at Ashley High School for a new head boys basketball coach is over. Guthrie has been the jv boys basketball coach at New Hanover the last three seasons. He replaces David Rutledge. The Fred Lynch Invitational tips off on Monday at six different locations in New Hanover County. 50 high school basketball teams will be competing in the three day event. The Ashley boys basketball team won't be competing in the event as the Screaming Eagles are in the middle of a coaching change. Ashley will formally introduce their new boys basketball coach on Monday though. Plus more! Full story...

Coastal Christian High School held a signing ceremony on Thursday for four student athletes. We have a full report on that. In baseball the season is still young, but the Wilmington Sharks are winless after three games in the Coastal Plain League. Full story...

More than a month ago Ashley High School dismissed its basketball coach. Since then we've been getting emails and phone calls from supporters of David Rutledge as well as detractors. Today this controversy went to a new level when some students walked out of class in protest. Full story...

Former NFL tight end Alge Crumpler will be returning to Wilmington this weekend. The New Hanover High graduate heads this year's induction class for the 2014 Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame. On Wednesday we addressed the home scoring drought for the Wilmington Hammerheads. On Wednesday the NCHSSA adopted new guidelines concerning the mercy rule for high school football and basketball.
