The East Bladen girls continue to knock off 4-A teams in basketball. East Bladen beat Ashley and Jack Britt earlier this season. On Monday night the Eagles beat Lumberton and we were there to check it out. East Bladen is now 11-0 on the season. Plus more! Full story...

Friday's Full Court Press on WWAY featured a basketball doubleheader at Brogden Hall between New Hanover and Ashley. It turned out to be a Wildcat type of night with New Hanover winning both the boys and the girls game. We unveiled the "Full Court Press Watch List" for the first time this season. The West Brunswick Trojans sit on top of the Mideastern Conference with a 3-0 league mark and an overall record of 10-0. We checked in with the Trojans on Thursday. West Brunswick beat arch rival South Brunswick by 15 points. We also checked out college action involving Brunswick Community College. Full story...

The North Brunswick boys did not put up much resistance to Hoggard on Tuesday night. Dunks from Xavier Johnson energized the crowd and the Vikings rolled to an easy win. We had our sports cameras in Shallotte too. West Brunswick remains undefeated. Laney lost in overtime against Scotland County. We were there for that one as well. The 2014-15 high school basketball season has been one long struggle for the boys basketball team at South Brunswick. The Cougars have only managed to win once. On Monday the struggles continued for the Cougars. Arch-rival North Brunswick defeated South Brunswick 67-46. Josh White scored a season high 25 points for North Brunswick. Friday marked the return of Chasity Melvin to WWAY's Full Court Press. The NC State Hall of Famer made a guest appearance on Friday. This season's analyst, Kevin Schneider, had a previous basketball commitment to fulfill. We showcased a slew of basketball action on the Full Court Press. This included game action from Hoggard-New Hanover, Whiteville-East Columbus and much more including another football state championship for Wallace-Rose Hill. Full story...

She's back. It's just for one night, but regardless, she is back. Former NC State basketball standout Chasity Melvin is in the saddle for the Full Court Press..Chasity Melvin led NC State to the Women's Final Four in 1998. Melvin was recently inducted into the NC State Athletics Hall of Fame and tonight she's back at WWAY to talk high school hoops on the Full Court Press! Full story...

Pender boys basketball coach Gary Battle has another solid team this season. The Patriots love to run up and down the court due to all of their athleticism. On Wednesday the Patriots beat Topsail in boys hoops. The Topsail girls were able to hold off Pender though. We checked out game action from both contests. Full story...

We had our sports cameras out and about on Tuesday night. The Hoggard boys basketball team used a handful of slam dunks to their advantage in the league opener against Topsail. The West Brunswick boys team held off a pesky Laney squad. The game was tied late in regulation until Ty Hill nailed a shot from behind the arc to lead the Trojans to a 69-66 victory. Gray Cheers led West Brunswick with a game high 34 points. Full story...

Despite the short distance teams from New Hanover County rarely travel to Bladen County to play basketball, but Ashley High did make the trip on Monday night in order to face East Bladen. We also made the trip in order to check out hoops from two different locations: Ashley vs. East Bladen and South Columbus vs. West Bladen. Full story...
