On Monday the Fred Lynch Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off at two locations in New Hanover County. On Monday Wilmington's Cari Blalock had a terrific day in the pool. Pending school board approval Nathan Faulk will take over the boys basketball program at Laney High School. Faulk replaces veteran coach Fred Lynch who will remain at the school as the athletics director. Full story...

New Hanover High School will be well represented in Charlotte on Saturday at the 11th Annual Jordan Brand Classic. The showcase event will be held at the home of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats. Wildcat senior Kadeem Allen will play on the NC East Regional team. Wildcat head coach Kirk Angel and Millbrook coach Scott McInnis will be the co-coaches of Allen's squad. Full story...

On Tuesday night the New Hanover County School Board recognized the New Hanover boys basketball team for winning the 4-A state championship in high school basketball. WWAY was there for that. The SE Elite 24 Basketball Classic is coming to Wilmington. The event will feature some of the best high school basketball players from the eastern part of our state. The one day event will be held on April 7 at Brogden Hall in Wilmington. Full story...

New Hanover senior Kadeem Allen tied Rodney Purvis for the most votes on the AP all-state boys basketball team on Thursday, but Purvis edged out Kadeem Allen on Saturday for the NC player of the year award. Full story...

New Hanover basketball coach Kirk Angel has been named the Associated Press high school coach of the year for boys basketball. Angel's team recently captured the state 4-A championship. The Wildcats finished the 2011-2012 season with a 30-1 record. This is the first time a Wilmington coach has been awarded the AP coach of the year recognition. Full story...

New Hanover senior Kadeem Allen has earned first team all-state honors in high school basketball. He's also the co-player of the year. Allen and the New Hanover Wildcats won the 4-A state title earlier this month in Raleigh. Full story...

Only two players from the Mideastern Conference earned 1st Team All-District honors for girls high school basketball. Unlike previous years the best players in the Mideastern Conference did not dominate the all-district honors for District 2 this year. Full story...
