Cameron Art Museum announces winter programs

The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington is kicking off the new year with a huge list of programming for children and adults.  The events include Martin Luther King holiday programming for kids, homeschooling help, painting classes, readings, yoga, and the return of Jazz@cam.

Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear looks to a world in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.  It is celebrating 25 years of providing case management, transitional housing, and emergency shelter to families in need.  The 25th Anniversary Celebration Low Country Boil has a happy hour, dinner, and entertainment from comedian Orlando Jones.  

Red light fees could go up

If you run a red light in Wilmington it could soon cost you even more. Right now the fine is $50 for running a light at a safelight intersection. But a recent court ruling takes most of that revenue away from the City and gives it to local schools.

Easley signs $21 billion budget

Governor Mike Easley has signed a nearly $21 billion state budget. Easley says lawmakers showed courage in boosting education spending and relieving counties' Medicaid burden.

Attempted murder suspect under house arrest in Landfall

videoAn attempted murder suspect turned himself in to authorities after five weeks in hiding. But he's no longer in the custody of sheriff's deputies. Mark Ackerman is actually under electronic house arrest at his parents' home in the gated community of Landfall. Ackerman is charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Dog fighting is local problem

videoVirginia isn't the only area where dog fighting occurs. Local animal control officers say it is a problem in our area. Animal Control Services Manager Jean McNeil said, "We have fighting that does go on inside our county."

WPD making presence known in Creekwood

videoWilmington Police are making their presence known in a local neighborhood prone to violence. Police say they haven't always had the best reputation in Wilmington's Creekwood neighborhood. They're trying to change that. Police officers are patrolling Creekwood on foot.

City Council candidates teaming up

Harper Peterson is collaborating with a former mayoral candidate Jeff Kohl and Kevin Delahunty, running for political office for the first time. The three are hoping to create a majority on the City Council.
